at the heart of our work

A unique performance/installation narrating local stories originated during Covid lockdowns when AKDC continued their creative engagement in their regional hubs – Luton, Woking, Slough, London, and Birmingham - with women reaching them through WhatsApp and Zoom. Using traditional Kantha – a south Asian form of embroidery, participants told their Covid experiences and stories.

In the final part of the project the Kanthas are kinetically progressed to Kathak by Amina Khayyam to a music score of Borodin’s Nocturne specially adapted by Jonathan Mayer to Indian instrumentation.

Presented at Luton (Dallow community Centre) and Woking (Peacock Shopping Centre with Dance Woking) and Birmingham Hippodrome
